14.2 million people watched the Packers-Eagles game from Brazil on Peacock on Friday night

The transition from professional football to streaming continues.

Friday night’s game between the Packers and Eagles was played in Brazil and aired exclusively on Peacock, drawing an average of 14.2 million viewers nationwide.

That number was nearly double the number of spectators who attended the regular-season game between the Bills and Chargers last December, which was only shown on Peacock.

It shows where the viewing world is headed. And that’s no surprise.

As technology improves and smart TVs become smarter, it’s a matter of clicking the right box, opening the app and sitting back and watching the game.

That’s what it’s always been about in the end. Finding the game and watching it. From the bunny ears, to the coaxial cable that plugged into the converter that plugged into where the bunny ears were, to the cable that went straight to the TV, to the dish that needed an unobstructed view of the satellite, to the high-speed internet connection that has reached the point where “buffering” has been relegated to something you do to your car after you wax it, it has always been and always will be about finding the game and watching it.
