Jordan Love details proposal, relationship with fiancée Ronika Stone

There was a lot of pressure on Jordan Love in his first season as quarterback for the Green Bay Packers in 2023.

He replaced Aaron Rodgers and was trusted to lead the franchise after three years as a reserve. But for him, that was nothing compared to the pressure this summer in Italy: getting his proposal to girlfriend Ronika Stone just right.

But just like his play during the season, the proposal, despite the nerves, could not have turned out better.

In an interview prior to the Packers’ season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles, Love sat down with NBC Sports reporter Maria Taylor, who asked which event is more nerve-wracking: playing at Lambeau Field or proposing to Stone?

“I would say propose to her,” Love said with a smile. “That was intense. Now I’m ready for the season. I’m ready.”

Love was surprised by Stone midway through the riveting interview, which overlooked Lambeau Field. Portions of the interview will air on Friday night’s pregame show on Peacock.

How did Jordan Love and Ronika Stone meet?

Love and Stone’s relationship actually started by accident through a series of FaceTimes that weren’t meant for each other at all.

Love happened to room with one of Stone’s best guy friends from high school, Mo Walker, at Utah State. Love and Walker were teammates for the Aggies football team.

Stone, meanwhile, was in Eugene, Oregon, playing Division I volleyball for the Ducks. She often called her old girlfriend to catch up. Love was in the background. The two looked at each other.

“It started slowly,” Love recalls. “I picked up the phone and we started having our one-on-one conversations.”

The conversations eventually led to a meeting.

Love was training in her home state of Bakersfield, California, and Stone was also in that state, albeit about an hour away, for a birthday party.

The two bonded and as Love says, “the rest is history.”

In fact, Love knew right away that what he had with Stone was something special.

“Ten days,” said Love, who wasted no time before asking Stone to be his girlfriend. “I went fast. That’s how you know, because I never go that fast.”

Stone wasn’t sure at first if Love would come to that party. She thought, “He’s not going to drive an hour, but he did.”

And Love passed another major milestone: being honest about his height. Stone, a professional volleyball player, is 6 feet 3 inches tall. In the past, Stone has said she has made boys lie about their height. Love is 6 feet 3 inches tall.

“I told him not to catfish me,” Stone said of his height. But “he passed the height test.”

Love and Stone have been together for four years, meaning Stone has watched Love grow from a backup quarterback to now the highest-paid player in NFL history.

“I used to go to games and I would sit there in the stands (pointing toward Lambeau Field) and just watch to see if he would turn around on the bench because he wasn’t playing to get noticed,” Stone said.

Then there was Love’s first start of 2021 as Rodgers was out with COVID-19. The world met Stone, who was sitting in the back row at Arrowhead Stadium with Love’s mother. “It wasn’t as bad as everyone says,” Stone reiterated.

Stone is a staunch defender of love on social media and isn’t afraid to call out critics during the ups and downs.

But now Love is the undisputed leader. “To see him run now and take over the team is unbelievable and to be there in the off-season and see him work, like really put his head down and fight, is remarkable to see. Makes me want to work harder in my sport.”

Stone, who had a typical American college career at Oregon before playing overseas, was involved in the successful launch of the Pro Volleyball Federation in the US in 2024.

She led her team, the San Diego Mojo, to the playoffs in their first season.

About a month after Stone’s season ended, the couple took a vacation to Florence, Italy. Museums. Fine dining. Immaculate sights. It was the perfect setting for a dream proposal.

Love proposed in Tuscany in the province of Siena at Castello di Celsa, a castle built in the 13th century with a beautiful view. Love worked with a wedding planner on all the details.

“I was nervous about what I was going to say. Just going into the freestyle,” Love said. “It was amazing. It was a moment I’ll never forget.”

Love said that being in the right place to propose and hiding the ring were the biggest obstacles. But when Love brought his crossbody bag and told Stone they were an hour away for dinner, Stone began to suspect a proposal was coming her way.

It didn’t change her emotions.

“When it happened… I was crying,” Stone recalls.

The couple were then given a tour of the castle and had a candlelit dinner on top of the castle.

“He did his thing,” Stone said approvingly.
