Monica’s enjoyment of Tim’s stories

Actress Monica Bellucci, who will star in the upcoming film Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, has heaped praise on director Tim Burton, saying that fairy tales have a lot of substance for an actor.

Monica said: “I have to say I feel so honoured to be part of this amazing cast, and to enter Tim’s fantastic and magical world. His vision is so personal, so unique. And his characters often have naive and childlike qualities.”

She added that even the bad guys often cause disruption inadvertently.

“There is so much content for an actor in his fairy tales. Participating in this film happened because Tim told me there was a key role in the film and he thought of me. I was very happy to accept and play it.”

About working with Michael Keaton, she said: “Almost all of my scenes are with Michael Keaton. And Michael was so kind. He has such a great energy. So gentle and so creative. And it was wonderful to see the creative connection between Tim and Michael that has built over the years.”

“You can feel the energy that they know each other very well. It was beautiful for everyone to see this creative synergy between them over the years that they worked together. I really enjoyed working with him.”

Asked about the impact 1988’s Beetlejuice had on her, Bellucci said, “Why is Beetlejuice such a beloved character? Because Beetlejuice is so funny, so unpredictable. Everything is so creative. And at the same time, there’s meaning. It’s about love, it’s about death… and life. All those questions that we’re so curious about, and now Beetlejuice is back to haunt the Deetz family again.”

“But now there are three generations of Deetz women, and it all starts over when they return to Winter River after an unexpected family tragedy and the gate to the afterlife is accidentally opened.”

She says she knows there are different generations who will want to see this film because Tim’s world is a fantasy world that all generations, children and adults, love.

“It’s a kind of universe that touches all souls in a very deep way. What I can say about Tim is that he is so precise. He knows what he wants. And the atmosphere on the set is very calm and beautiful. And his energy, it’s really inspiring for everyone. And it’s really great to work in this kind of atmosphere,” she said.
