World number one Jannik Sinner meets former champion Daniil Medvedev at Arthur Ashe Stadium

Daniil is in a flow and applies pressure again as he follows a beautiful drop shot with a clinical smash.

Sinner turns the tables from 15-30 to 40-30, but is then forced to deuce when Medvedev gets hold of a mediocre dropper and punches away a backhand pass.

The 2021 champion earns a break point when he mishits a drive volley down the line and then manages to draw a backhand from the Italian over the long line.

Sinner survives, but can’t close the book. Another impatient backhand mistake creates a second chance.

This time Medvedev makes the difference and he again holds his ground to banish the forehand error.
