Krispy Kreme’s Dr Pepper Donuts taste test review

Can anyone actually pinpoint the flavor of Dr Pepper? Dr Pepper is a blend of 23 flavors and is completely unique, yet hard to define. In a line of soft drinks, Dr Pepper is probably one of the easiest to choose from. But what about a Dr Pepper in a donut form? Could it contain all 23 flavors (and then some)?

Thanks to Krispy Kreme launching a Dr Pepper Doughnut in their Kickoff Collection to celebrate football season, I finally got to try it. A soda-flavored doughnut? Of course I had to try it.

The Dr Pepper Kickoff Doughnut starts with an Original Glazed, but is topped with Dr. Pepper flavored frosting, sprinkles, and a white chocolate logo. Compared to the other two doughnuts in the Krispy Kreme x Dr Pepper Kickoff Collection box, this one smelled different… less sugary and more peppery.

Dr Pepper combines flavors like cherry, amaretto, and licorice. The donut is definitely more cherry-forward. The glaze had a peppery “bite” like Dr Pepper and even left a similar aftertaste. While I might not be able to identify the flavor in a blind taste test, it would be obvious if I knew I was tasting soda-flavored donuts. Even if you don’t like Dr Pepper, you might like this donut.

The rest of the collection includes a Buttercreme Goals Doughnut and a Kreme Filled Football Doughnut. Whether you’re a Dr Pepper fan or even a football watcher, you can order the Kickoff Collection box for a limited time. It’s also available at select retailers, including Walmart, Kroger, Food Lion, and Publix.

Have you tried the Dr Pepper Doughnut? We would love to know what you think.
