DI, 4 constables booked for torture of Dalit woman in Telangana

Hyderabad: A detective inspector and four constables of the Shadnagar police were suspended on Friday for allegedly torturing a Dalit woman in the police station, on August 4.

Detective Inspector Rami Reddy and the constables tortured the 35-year-old woman in the presence of her 14-year-old son in connection with a theft that took place in the house of her neighbor.

After her release, Sunitha brought the torture to the notice of local leaders. The victim also alleged that the police reportedly forcibly made her confess to the crime. As a result, a case was registered under the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities Act).
