Australian influencers Chloe Szepanowski and Mitchell Orval slam Olympics opening ceremony for ‘mocking Jesus’

Two well-known Australian influencers have criticised the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics, claiming that a scene shown on television was a mockery of Jesus.

The Last Supper, the biblical scene showing Jesus and his disciples eating together before Judas betrayed him, was reimagined for Friday night’s ceremony.

In stark contrast to Leonardo da Vinci’s classic 15th-century interpretation, the contemporary depiction features a woman with a halo crown and her hands in a heart shape, flanked by several drag queens and a child.

Business owner Chloe Szepanowski and her partner Mitchell Orval took to Instagram to express their anger over the performance.

“Did anyone else see protesters mocking Jesus at the Olympics?” Orval asked his followers.

“If he made me this angry, let it serve as a comforting reminder: they wouldn’t be doing this unless he was telling the truth!”

Szepanowski said the opening ceremony was the worst he had ever seen.

“Well, this is the worst one so far,” he said.

“This year, God is being mocked. It is horrible, but it is one more reason to follow Jesus.”

His social media posts came just after French clergy expressed outrage at the “mockery of Christianity.”

“The opening ceremony proposed by the Catholic Organization for Faith and Sport offered the entire world wonderful moments of beauty and joy. It was a ceremony full of emotion and unanimously acclaimed,” said a statement from the French Episcopal Conference.

“The ceremony unfortunately included scenes of mockery and ridicule of Christianity, which we deeply deplore.”
