We had to wait for the “gods” to return: Project director explains delay on Ofankor-Nsawam road

Senior Project Manager, Eng. Abdulai Mahama, explained the delay in the completion of the Ofankor-Nsawam road.

The project, which began in September 2022, was expected to be completed in 24 months but is currently 60 percent complete.

Speaking on Adom TV’s current affairs programme, ‘‘The big agenda’ Speaking to Abena Opokua Ahwenee, Mr Mahama explained that the challenges causing the delay are beyond his control.

Among other things, he revealed that they had to demolish a shrine along the way, but were told that the gods had traveled.

He said there were also issues to be resolved between settlers and landowners, such as the need to reposition the high-voltage cables of ECG and GRIDCO, among others.

“My sister, during construction, we came across a shrine. We consulted the locals and they told us that the gods had travelled, which delayed us for three and a half months. We had to pay for two heads of cattle and provide money before we were allowed to continue with the work,” Mr Mahama explained.

Regarding the project timeline, Mr Mahama said the road has a design life of 20 years, while all drainage systems are designed to last 50 years.
